unbridled chaos ft. fleas
In a comedic twist of irony after writing a post called "on blogging every day", I have not had the time to blog for four days. With hurricane Milton brewing ominously in the Gulf over the weekend, my partner and I spent about two days feverishly prepping to deal with extended power loss, flooding, or evacuation. Walmart was packed like the apocalypse was coming, so we grabbed what few canned foods were left, a plastic garbage bin to fill with water, and got out of there before we got trampled.
As the hurricane drew closer, I started noticing my cats leaving a dirt-like substance on the floor. Strange, I thought, since they don't go outside. Well, turns out your cats don't have to go outside to get fleas! Great! And the hurricane is coming when? Tomorrow? Cool!
In what was quickly becoming the most stressful 72 hours of my life, we had a flea infestation AND a storm on our hands. We spent the entire next day disinfecting the apartment and treating the cats with flea medication and baths (I'm surprised I made it out alive). We've still got some flea friends hanging around, but I think my panicked cleaning scared off most of them (I swear I'm never as tidy as I am when I see a bug in my space... yuck).
As for the storm, it swerved overnight and passed us without so much as a peep. I opened the door this morning to a few loose leaves and the closest Florida will ever come to a chill in the air. Not all of us got so lucky, but at least we were prepared.
Despite multiple mini-breakdowns this week (with more to come I'm sure), I end this week with the feeling that everything will be alright. I've had a pretty shitty October, but the great thing about a bad month is it's only up from there.
