damn it's been a minute
What the title says.
The Autobiography of My Mother by Jamaica Kincaid (1996). About a year ago, I read Kincaid's A Small Place and adored it.
The chilly weather has motivated me and my girlfriend to go on more dates, and we recently went to the bookstore where I picked up The Autobiography of My Mother by Jamaica Kincaid and a puzzle which I got as a gift for my mom because I thought she'd like the artwork. I've been making a point of buying one book at a time at the bookstore lately, mostly to prevent that feeling I get after the high of buying new books wears down where I realize just how many of them I have yet to read. If I buy them more slowly, I figure, the number of those left to read will stay low. I hope.
I always order vanilla lattes my first time and every coffee shop for some reason.
The chilly weather has also inspired us to go to cafes where we can order hot drinks and sit outside enjoying the weather on weekends. It's my second winter living somewhere not tropical, but I was still shocked by the cold! Hot coffee, it turns out, has a functional purpose this time of year.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby, also known as the reason I haven't had the time for blogging lately (just kidding... kind of).
Alongside finding time for appreciating my surroundings, I've also enjoyed playing mobile gacha games which suck up every minute of otherwise free time I have in my day. My roommate and I simultaneously became addicted to this game, in which you train and race anime horse girls who are based on real Japanese race horses. Sounds insane. It's awesome.
I've also recently gotten back into a fully-fledged rhythm game addiction with the help of Project Sekai, or as it's known in America, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. I started on a new Project Sekai account after unlocking everything I wanted to on Arcaea and Phigros and climbed to Player Rank 45 in about three weeks. I have a serious problem. I'm hearing the PJSK songs in my dreams...
A sweet baby Golden snub-nosed monkey!
Another hyperfixation of mine recently has been primatology! For my Anthropology major, I have to take Biological Anthropology, a fact which I was initially butthurt about given that I historically suck at biology but which I am beginning to see the upside of. I realized once we entered the primatology unit that I kind of have a knack for analyzing primate skulls in lab, so that's been a ton of fun! Since I love adding fuel to the fire of new interest, I've already purchased a book on primatology and watched a documentary about Golden snub-noses with my girlfriend.
Check out Sylvia's pixel bear's here.
And now for the real reason I'm writing to you today, despite the fact that I have a midterm project due tonight (which I'm actively avoiding right now). The precious bears above belong to Sylvia, who runs the blog A parenthetical departure. She made them for the Bearblog creation festival, and emailed me to let me know about the inclusion of my blog in the pixel bear display (see the highlighted one with the cat ears above). I was so grateful to be thought of and to have my (recently inactive) blog's likeness captured in this adorable project! That gesture inspired me to tell you all what I've been up to and where I've been.
TL;DR: I'm alright, just busy (playing Umamusume...)
Thanks for sticking around <3
