The Birdhouse

Life has been eventful lately.

Or rather has been a constant battering of due dates, world events, life upheavals, and things— things happening all the time.

Maybe this is just what it means to be a young person who (unfortunately for her sanity) cares about her resume. Maybe the gray hairs are just the fruits of my labor. Maybe the sleepless nights are dues for all the restful nights to come. Maybe being more stressed than one feels one should be in a lifetime is one of the things one has to go through to become successful.

Either that, or I'll be stressed forever if I don't chill out.

Even with the barrage of stuff, there have been a lot of wonderful things I'd love to update you all with:

I. I've been slowly working on Clover.Poe this month, and have started reaching out to some of my favorite writers and artists on the platform (and beyond) and collect a few submissions to garner interest for the project. I'm really proud of the project (though still in its infancy), and I've received a lot of love from the community I wasn't expecting! I was wondering at first whether I should tie my personal blog to the project, but I now realize there's no way it could thrive to the fullest capacity without my... personal pizazz.

II. I finally got a haircut! I've been growing my hair out from a pixie for two years now, and reached my mid-back just in time for summer to come and for me to get totally sick of it. I'm just not made to handle the immense amounts of thick curly hair my genes have bestowed upon me. So, I got a bob! I successfully avoided getting a haircut in the eight months since moving, but I finally had to find a hairdresser in my city. My girlfriend's old job downtown had a salon next to it, and the hairdressers used to come into her job all the time. She said they seemed really nice (and cool), so I looked them up. On Instagram, I saw one of them specialized in curly hair! Success! So, I waited (equal parts nervous and excited) for my appointment, and it went wonderfully. She was a delight, and my bob came out so cuteeeeee <3 I'm so glad to not be drowning in my own hair anymore.

III. I applied on a whim to be on the editorial staff for a magazine on my campus, and I just had an interview to determine compatibility with the chief editor. It went very well from the looks of it! I think I'm in. I'm trying to get myself more involved on campus where my interests and hobbies are concerned, and a student-run magazine seemed a great place to make some friends. At the beginning of my sophomore year I wasn't part of any organizations on campus, and now I'm vice president of my major's society and am now on the staff for this magazine! Progress is being made. Maybe I'll actually make the stress of college worth something.

Here's to getting it done (and relishing a little longer in what we've been able to do).
